Schools Reported Mock Election Results; 286,249 Students Voted
in October
New
Jersey students from kindergarten through 12th grade cast
ballots in October in the 2008 National Student/Parent Mock
Election.

Fox News carried a report on the Mock Election during their Friday and
weekend national cable news shows, October 19-20. The report was based on a visit by
their news team to Fort Lee Elementary School #4 on Wednesday, October 22.
Journalism Diversity
Workshop Students Produce Lab Paper, The Mosaic
Sixteen
high school students attended the 2008 Hugh N. Boyd Journalism
Diversity Workshop July 13-25 at Monmouth University.
The workshop, which received grants from the New Jersey Press
Foundation, the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund, the FirstEnergy
Foundation and several New Jersey newspapers, was operated by the Chiger
Williams Foundation.
The laboratory newspaper,
The Mosaic,
was written, edited and designed by the students.

Scholarship Recipients
Keith Obzut of East Brunswick and Kathryn
Stoppiello of Brick have been offered $2,000 college
scholarships in the New Jersey Press Foundation's
2008
Isaac Roth Newspaper Carrier Scholarship Program.

Verona
Student Named N.J High School Journalist of the Year
Andrea Krushefski, a senior at Verona High School, was named the
2008 High School Journalist of the Year and received the
Bernard Kilgore Memorial Scholarship from the New Jersey Press
Foundation.
Burlington
County Journalism Teacher Selected for Summer Internship
Charles Zimmerman, the journalism teacher at
Pemberton Township High School in Burlington County, is the New
Jersey Press Foundation’s high school teacher intern for 2008
through the
Teachers at Newspapers
Program.
Cattafi Awarded 2008 Drukker Scholarship
Kristie Cattafi, a sophomore journalism student
at Montclair State University, was selected by NJPF as recipient
of the 2008
Richard Drukker Memorial Scholarship.

newspapers, as part of NJPF's
2008 Internship/Scholarship Program.
